The UN International Court of Justice requires Ukraine to respond to the genocide case in Donbas

The UN International Court of Justice has accepted Russia's counter-claim against Ukraine regarding the genocide case in Donbas, and has set a deadline for Kyiv to submit its written response. This was stated in a ruling issued by the court on December 8th.

The document states that Ukraine is allowed to present its defense, while Russia can respond to these defenses.

The court has set the following dates:

- Kyiv must submit its defense before December 7, 2026;

- Moscow must submit its response to the above defense before December 7, 2027.

The International Court also determined that Russia's counter-claim is admissible and noted that these claims are directly related to the subject of the dispute.

Previously, on the same day, the Russian General Prosecutor's Office had approved the indictment against high-level political and military leaders of Ukraine for the alleged genocide in the territories of the "Donetsk People's Republic" and the "Luhansk People's Republic". The case involves 41 individuals.
