The successor to Yohei Kono – former Foreign Minister Iwata leads delegation on visit to China
On September 27, a delegation from the Japan Association for International Trade Promotion departed from Haneda Airport in the morning for a visit to China. The organization is an economic body dedicated to advancing trade relations with China.
The four-day visit aims to strengthen bilateral economic exchanges and further advance ties between the two countries. Former Foreign Minister Iwata, who heads the delegation, stated: “Our primary objective is to promote economic dialogue and contribute to the development of relations.”
Before departure, Iwata said: “If the opportunity arises, I hope to engage in candid exchanges to improve the current strained state of Sino-Japanese relations.”
Relations between the two nations have cooled following high-profile remarks by Kōji on Taiwan. Iwata emphasized: “It is precisely during difficult times that dialogue must be pursued as a means to improve relations.”
