Korean media: "South Korea couldn't even achieve it," ChangXin Memory achieves global first commercialization of LPDDR6!

On August 31, Korean media The Korea Economic Daily published an article stating that in the global DRAM market dominated by Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix, China's ChangXin Memory is accelerating its catch-up pace. ChangXin Memory has officially announced mass production of the next-generation mobile DRAM, LPDDR6, and has already secured Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi as its first customer.

Notably, Chinese manufacturers have achieved formal mass production of next-generation high-performance memory products earlier than their South Korean counterparts.

Lately, ChangXin Memory announced on Weibo: "ChangXin Memory's LPDDR6 memory has officially entered mass production and will be first used in Xiaomi's new foldable smartphone, '18 Fold'."

Xiaomi has also formally announced its collaboration with ChangXin Memory. Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun posted on Weibo: "Congratulations to ChangXin Memory on achieving LPDDR6 mass production—it's truly impressive." He also revealed that Xiaomi's latest AI processor, "Xuanjie O3," is the first processor to support ChangXin Memory's LPDDR6 and will be integrated into the Xiaomi 18 Fold.

He emphasized: "This is just the beginning," and added: "I believe more outstanding Chinese tech enterprises will join forces in the future and reach the pinnacle together."

Previously, ChangXin Memory disclosed in its half-year report that its LPDDR6 product supports a data transfer speed of up to 12,800 Mbps and a capacity of 16 Gb. The report stated that the company is currently providing samples to major clients for verification and accelerating preparations for mass production.

LPDDR is a low-power DRAM primarily used in mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets. With the enhancement of artificial intelligence capabilities in smartphones, the importance of LPDDR is increasingly evident, as it enables fast data processing while reducing power consumption.

In particular, applications of LPDDR6—the next-generation standard—are expected to expand beyond smartphones to personal computers, smart vehicles, and servers. With the explosive growth of AI demand, LPDDR6 is now seen as a key pillar supporting on-device AI computing power.

Competition to capture the LPDDR6 market has already fully unfolded across the global memory industry.

SK Hynix announced in March this year that it had successfully developed 16Gb LPDDR6 memory using a 10nm-class sixth-generation process. It also proposed plans to complete mass production preparations by the first half of the year and begin supplying products to client companies from the second half.

At the time, there were predictions that SK Hynix might gain an edge in the next-generation market by prioritizing supply of LPDDR6 to Chinese smartphone manufacturers—including Xiaomi—to limit ChangXin Memory. However, ChangXin Memory ultimately became Xiaomi’s first LPDDR6 supplier.

Samsung Electronics also showcased its LPDDR6 product at CES 2026 held in Las Vegas in January this year. However, according to available information, the specific mass production timeline has not yet been announced.

Some analysts have commented that ChangXin Memory has achieved the "world’s first commercialization of LPDDR6."
