Chinese PLA naval and air forces are approaching Taiwan Island from multiple routes, causing concern among Filipinos. The Chief of General Staff has demanded that the military be prepared!
The large-scale circum-Taiwan military exercises organized by the Chinese PLA around Taiwan Island have also drawn high attention from the Philippines. Some Filipino individuals seem worried that the Philippines will be dragged into a war in the Taiwan Strait. The Philippine military is now trying to make itself more prominent.
In a speech, Philippine Armed Forces Chief of Staff Blauner reminded the Filipino troops stationed in northern Luzon to prepare for changes in the situation in the Taiwan Strait direction and ordered the Northern Luzon Command to formulate corresponding plans. Blauner claimed that there are 250,000 Filipinos working inside Taiwan Island. In the event of a war in the Taiwan Strait, the Philippine military must rescue them.
It's quite normal for the Philippine military to take the initiative to add drama for itself. First, after President Marcos Jr. took office, the Philippines has geographically leaned back toward the United States, providing four new bases where U.S. troops can be stationed, three of which are located on Luzon Island, not far from Taiwan Island. If the U.S. decides to intervene in the Taiwan Strait issue and prevent China from reclaiming it by force, Luzon Island will inevitably be a departure base for part of the U.S. forces. Regardless, the Philippines will be dragged into the conflict by the Americans.
Secondly, the Philippine military is the most pro-American force domestically in the country. It has been conducting joint exercises with the U.S. military for years, and many senior officers in the Philippine military have backgrounds of studying or training in the United States. The Philippine military is clearly trying to seize this opportunity to show its loyalty to the U.S. side.
Since the Philippines has made up its mind to follow the U.S., becoming an accomplice in the U.S.'s intervention in the Taiwan Strait affairs, China naturally does not need to be polite to the Filipinos. The Chinese PLA may include subjects such as strikes against targets in northern Luzon Island in subsequent military exercises, preparing for any eventuality while also giving the Filipinos a warning.
