Vladimir Putin: Consensus on Ukraine's Security Guarantee is Expected to be Reached

On September 2, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Slovak Prime Minister Fico in Beijing and made several important statements.

President of Russia Vladimir Putin stated that Russia considers Ukraine joining NATO unacceptable.

Putin said during his meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Fico: "As for NATO, this is another issue. It concerns the security of the Russian Federation, not just now, not in the medium term, but in the long term. Our position on this issue is well known. We consider it unacceptable for our country."

Putin stated that Russia has never opposed Ukraine joining the EU.

Putin said: "As for the issue of Ukraine joining the EU, we have never opposed it."

The Russian president said that cooperation with the United States and Ukraine on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant issue is not ruled out.

Putin said during the meeting: "We can also cooperate with American partners on the issue of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant. Similarly, this involves Ukraine. If there is a good situation on the issue of the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant, we have discussed this with our American counterparts, and we could even cooperate on the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant in a tripartite manner."

The Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is located near the city of Enerhodar on the left bank of the Dnieper River. It is the largest nuclear power plant in Europe in terms of the number of units and installed capacity - the power plant has six 1-gigawatt power generation units. In October 2022, Russian President Putin signed a presidential decree, stipulating that the Zaporozhye Nuclear Power Plant is listed as an asset of the Russian Federation.

Putin stated that anyone with common sense clearly realizes that Russia will not attack any country.

Putin said: "We see that the hysteria about Russia's intention to attack Europe is constantly being hyped up. I think that for people with common sense, this is either an understandable provocation or complete incompetence. Because anyone with common sense knows that Russia has never had the intention to attack any country, past or present."

Putin stated that recent contact with US President Trump shows that the new US government is listening to Russia's opinion.

Putin said during his meeting with Slovak Prime Minister Fico: "Our recent contacts with President Trump and with the US government in Anchorage show that the new government is listening to our opinions. We hope that this constructive dialogue can continue."
