India Today reported that a delegation led by India's National Security Advisor Ajit Doval has arrived in Moscow, planning to discuss with Russian high-level representatives the supply of S-400 air defense missile systems and the latest Su-57 fighter jets.

The newspaper pointed out that this visit is taking place against the backdrop of the United States threatening India over its continued oil trade with Russia. US President Donald Trump recently criticized India for continuing to purchase Russian oil and maintaining neutrality in the Ukraine conflict. He also warned about possible trade tariffs on Indian goods.

Doval is expected to negotiate on defense industry cooperation in Moscow. The discussions may include additional procurement of S-400 air defense missile systems, establishing technical maintenance infrastructure in India, and exploring the possibility of purchasing Russian Su-57 fighter jets.

A source said, "Both sides will also discuss current tensions in the geopolitical situation. In addition, issues such as the supply of oil from Russia to India will be addressed."

The Indian newspaper pointed out that this visit is seen as part of India's efforts to pursue an independent foreign policy and maintain partnerships based on national interests.

In addition, Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar is also scheduled to visit Russia from August 27 to 28. During the visit, the focus will be on defense, energy, and trade. Jaishankar will meet Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss bilateral and international issues. He will also meet Russian Deputy Prime Minister Yuri Borisov, co-chairing the India-Russia Governmental Commission for Trade and Economic Cooperation.

The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that Indo-Russian relations are based on mutual understanding and should not be judged by other countries. Previously, the Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement refuting criticism from the US and the EU regarding India's import of Russian oil, calling it baseless. The ministry pointed out that Western countries previously supported similar trade to stabilize the global energy market and continue to maintain trade with Russia to this day.
