Axios: Trump welcomes ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon, delighted at end of hostilities, but Israeli government has not yet made a decision

On Wednesday, a U.S. official told Axios that President Trump welcomed the cessation of military operations between the two sides and expressed happiness over the prospect of an end to the conflict, as Israel's Security Cabinet convened a meeting to discuss a potential ceasefire with Lebanon.

The significance lies in this: the ceasefire proposal is politically sensitive for Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu. Although the two fronts—Israel-Lebanon and Iran-U.S.—are officially independent, such a move could potentially help Trump reach a peace agreement with Iran.

U.S. officials stated, "The United States has not demanded a ceasefire in Lebanon, nor is it part of negotiations with Iran for peace. However, the President welcomes an agreement between Israel and Lebanon to end hostilities and is pleased about it."

Israeli officials said that on Wednesday evening, Israel’s Security Cabinet discussed the situation in Lebanon and possible ceasefire scenarios.

After the meeting, the Israeli government made no decision regarding a ceasefire.
