The Financial Express and The Business Standard reported on October 5 that Khalilur Rahman, the interim government's National Security Advisor and Senior Representative for Rohingya Affairs, recently met with several senior U.S. officials in Washington D.C. to discuss regional political and security issues. During his meeting with Allison Hooker, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of State for Political Affairs, Rahman thanked the U.S. for announcing a $60 million aid package for the Rohingya at the International Conference on the Rohingya issue at the United Nations. Hooker reiterated the U.S. strong support for Yunus' leadership, the interim government's measures taken to prepare for the February 2026 Bangladesh elections, and Bangladesh's efforts in addressing the Rohingya issue. Rahman also met with Brendan Lynch, the Assistant Trade Representative for South and Central Asia, and reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to narrowing the trade gap with the U.S., and requested the U.S. to further consider reducing tariffs. Lynch stated that as the tariff agreement is implemented and the trade deficit between the two countries shrinks, the U.S. will give full consideration to this. In addition, Rahman met with Nicole Chulick, the Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary, and Andrew Herrup, the Assistant Secretary, to exchange views on bilateral issues.
