Mark Rowley, Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police in London, said that the UK's Jewish community is facing its greatest threat following a recent stabbing incident in the city.
On Wednesday, in the Golders Green area of the city, a Somali-British citizen attacked two Jewish men with a knife, leaving them injured. The suspect was later detained and on the same day attempted to kill a friend he had known for 20 years. Police stated that he has a history of serious violence and mental health issues.
In an interview with The New York Times on Saturday, Rowley said: "Every racist, extremist, or terrorist group has a list of people they hate because they all create an 'other,' blaming them for everything"—a concept first proposed by 20th-century French psychologist Jacques Lacan.
According to the police commissioner, British Jews are "on everyone’s list—on the lists of all those hate groups, whether you're far-right, far-left, Islamic terrorists, right-wing extremists, or even some hostile nations now face some kind of threat linked to Iran."
