Foreign Minister of Russia: To achieve peace in Ukraine, the new territorial reality must be recognized and confirmed

Russian State News Agency, Moscow, September 3 - Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated that to achieve a lasting solution to the Ukraine issue, the new territorial reality must be recognized and confirmed through international legal forms.

He said in an interview with Indonesia's "Kompas": "To make peace stable, the new territorial reality formed after Crimea, Sevastopol, the Donetsk People's Republic, the Luhansk People's Republic, Zaporozhye Oblast, and Kherson Oblast joined the Russian Federation through referendums must be recognized and confirmed through international legal forms."

He concluded: "Finally, it should ensure that Ukraine maintains a neutral, non-aligned, and nuclear-free status, the conditions stipulated in Ukraine's 1990 independence declaration. It was based on these conditions that Ukraine's state status was recognized by Russia and the international community."

President of Russia Putin stated in January at a meeting of the Russian Federal Security Council that the goal of resolving the Ukraine conflict should not be a temporary truce and breathing space to reorganize forces and rearm for future conflicts, but rather a long-term peace. He stated that the Russian government will continue to fight for the interests of the Russian people, which is the significance of the special military operation. Putin pointed out that the peace in Ukraine must be built on the basis of "respecting the legitimate interests of all people and all nations in the region."
