U.S. Ambassador to NATO: The U.S. Has Not Imposed Additional Tariffs on China for Purchasing Russian Energy, Trade Talks Are Ongoing

Sputnik News, Moscow, September 3 - U.S. Ambassador to NATO Matthew Pottinger stated on September 2 that the U.S. has not imposed secondary sanctions or new tariffs due to China's purchase of Russian energy, and that extensive trade talks with Beijing are currently underway.

Pottinger told Bloomberg: "President Trump has not imposed tariffs on China because the relevant negotiations are still ongoing. Of course, the Ukraine conflict is also part of these discussions."

He also pointed out that although he believes tariffs could be effective, they neither resolve the U.S.-China trade issues nor the Ukraine conflict.

The U.S. ambassador also acknowledged that the measures previously imposed on India for purchasing Russian energy did not improve Washington's trade relations with New Delhi.
