Trump says the US Navy will soon escort ships in the Strait of Hormuz
Sputnik Washington, March 14 - US President Trump said that US Navy ships will soon begin to provide escort for vessels to ensure their safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
He said when answering related questions: "This will be achieved soon."
Previously, on February 27, Trump told Fox News that the US is prepared to provide escort for oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz if necessary.
On February 28, the US and Israel launched a series of strikes against targets inside Iran, including in Tehran. According to reports, the attacks caused destruction and civilian deaths. Iran retaliated by attacking Israeli territory and US military facilities in the Middle East.
As a result, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has sharply declined. The strait is a key route for Gulf countries to export oil and liquefied natural gas to the global market, accounting for about 20% of global oil and petroleum products as well as liquefied natural gas supply.
