On March 13 local time, U.S. President Trump posted on social media that the U.S. military had launched a "severe air strike" against military targets at the Khark Island, an oil export hub of Iran.

Trump said, "All military targets on the island were completely destroyed," but not the oil infrastructure on the island. "However, if Iran or any other party takes any action to interfere with the free and safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz, I will immediately reconsider this decision."

He claimed, "Iran has no capability to defend any target we want to attack - they are helpless! Iran will never have nuclear weapons, nor will it have the ability to threaten the United States, the Middle East, or the entire world!"

Trump also claimed that the Iranian military and all others related to the Iranian regime "had better wisely lay down their arms and save what little remains of their country."
