NATO Secretary General: Denmark, Greenland, and the United States continue negotiations on security issues
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said before the NATO Defense Ministers' meeting on January 12 that Denmark, Greenland, and Americans are continuing negotiations on security issues.
NATO launched the "Arctic Sentinel" operation on Wednesday to strengthen its presence in the Arctic region.
Rutte said, "Before my meeting with the President of the United States, I told the media that there are several areas of work. One is ensuring that NATO takes on the major responsibility of protecting the Arctic, and the 'Arctic Sentinel' operation is a direct result of this responsibility. Additionally, as you know, Denmark, Greenland, and the United States are continuing their negotiations. I believe this is a very important matter, and they first focus on one issue, with the aim that any investment in Greenland is protected in advance, and China will not participate in Greenland's economy."
Trump previously said that during his meeting with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte at the World Economic Forum in Davos, he laid the groundwork for future Greenland agreements. Trump also expressed in his speech at the Davos Forum his intention to immediately start negotiations on acquiring Greenland, and he emphasized that he has no intention of acquiring Greenland through forceful means.
