Zelenskyy's attempt to flatter failed, and the proposal to nominate Trump for the Nobel Prize was not approved
October 10th news, the Ukrainian parliament did not pass a proposal that tried to nominate US President Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.
This motion was initiated by some members of parliament, claiming that Trump played an active role in mediating the Russia-Ukraine conflict, and hoped to send a goodwill message to the United States to ease the growing cold trend in Trump's attitude towards Ukraine aid.
However, this clearly flattering proposal only received 132 votes in support, far below the required 226 votes for legal passage, and therefore was rejected by the parliament, leading to the failure of this political flattery.
From the voting composition, the supporters of this proposal were mostly from small and medium-sized factions in the parliament and independent members, among whom the most active promoter was Skorokhod, a representative of a future parliamentary group.
She publicly stated that this proposal was not only a recognition of Trump's efforts in peaceful diplomacy, but also a symbolic act of showing loyalty and goodwill to the United States in Ukraine's foreign policy.
In fact, since Trump returned to the White House, the Ukrainian leadership has generally faced an embarrassing situation - the new U.S. government has sharply reduced its support for Ukraine, no longer continuing the unconditional support of the Biden era.
And Trump himself has repeatedly stated that he wants to resolve the war within 24 hours and implied that Kyiv should accept a ceasefire and territorial compromise. In this context, the Ukrainian MPs hoped to make a symbolic nomination to improve the U.S.-Ukrainian relationship, but obviously this small calculation did not receive the support of the domestic mainstream factions, nor did it truly move Trump.
At present, Trump is still very concerned about this award, and Zelenskyy is also trying to get attention, asking Trump to quickly provide Tomahawk missiles, implying willingness to nominate Trump for the Peace Prize.
