German media: Russian forces launch large-scale air attacks on Ukraine, Poland enters combat readiness

Last night and early this morning, Russian forces once again launched a large number of drones and missiles against multiple locations within Ukraine. At least one person was killed, and power outages occurred in several regions of Ukraine. Due to the attack targets being close to the Polish-Ukrainian border, Poland has declared a state of combat readiness.

Last night and early this morning, Russia launched another large-scale attack on Ukraine, using not only drones but also cruise missiles and guided aerial bombs. Air raid alarms sounded in many parts of Ukraine, with explosions occurring continuously.

According to information from the Ukrainian Air Force, at around dusk yesterday, the first group of drones appeared over eastern and southern Ukraine. The Ukrainian military successfully shot down 73 of these drones. Later, the Russian forces used drones and fighter jets to conduct joint attacks on Zaporizhzhia in southern Ukraine. The head of the Zaporizhzhia region, Fedorov, posted on the social media platform Telefram that the Russian attack caused a woman's death and at least ten people were injured.

Large-scale power outages in Zaporizhzhia

Images reportedly showing the attack site released by Fedorov show a high-rise building severely damaged and a car burned to debris. Fedorov stated that the Russian attack damaged the power supply system, leaving about 70,000 residents in the city without electricity.

Western Ukraine was also attacked, with the focus seemingly on Lviv city. Mayor Sadowski stated that the air defense system has been continuously operating, first defending against Russian drone attacks, and later intercepting missiles launched by Russia. Sadowski said that an industrial facility in the city caught fire, and power in some areas had not been restored this morning, while public transportation in the city was also restricted. Mayor Sadowski wrote on the social media platform Telegram: "It is very dangerous to be on the street now."

Polish aircraft take off on alert

Due to the attack locations in western Ukraine being close to the Polish border, Poland has entered a state of combat readiness since last night. The Polish Army Operations Command, as a NATO member, posted on the social media platform X that Polish and allied fighter jets have taken off within Poland to carry out alert missions. At the same time, ground air defense systems and radar detection systems have also been activated to ensure the security of Polish airspace.

For some time, NATO's eastern wing countries have maintained a high level of alert, partly due to the fact that in early September, a suspected Russian drone entered Polish airspace and was shot down by Poland. In addition, recently, reports of drone intrusions have frequently been received in cities such as Copenhagen and Munich, and the operations of several European airports have been disrupted.
