"Rosatom" is preparing to start up the first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant in Bangladesh.
Rosatom Corporation stated, "The first unit of the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant has completed the blowing of steam pipelines with new steam in the turbine hall."
Rosatom Corporation pointed out that this is one of the key stages in the cold-to-hot commissioning of the unit.
The state corporation said, "The blowing work used new steam at a pressure of 2.0 megapascals and a temperature of 200 degrees Celsius. The next step will be the second blowing of the steam pipelines, during which the amount of new steam will be increased, which will allow for the final cleaning of the pipelines and the precise adjustment of the equipment parameters under near-operational load conditions."
Alexei Derya, vice president of "Atomstroyexport" responsible for the Bangladesh project, stated that the completion of this startup commissioning phase is another step forward in starting up the No. 1 unit.
Alexei Derya said, "Looking ahead, the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, built using Russia's latest VVER-1200 project, will provide up to 10% of clean energy for Bangladesh over the next few decades."
As reported, "Rosatom" has constructed two VVER-1200 reactors at the Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant, with a total capacity of 2400 megawatts. The nuclear power plant is built according to the Russian project, located 160 kilometers from the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka. The construction cost of the power plant is 12.65 billion US dollars, of which 90% is a 28-year loan provided by Russia.
Vice Prime Minister Alexei Ovetchuk stated in March that the actual construction work on the Bangladesh nuclear power plant is nearing completion.
