Kremlin: Western demands for countries to cut trade relations with Russia are illegal
Russian President's press secretary Peskov stated that the West's demands for multiple countries to cut trade relations with Russia are illegal.
India's Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Jaiswal previously said that India believes it is baseless and unreasonable for the United States and the European Union to criticize India for importing Russian oil, and India will take measures to safeguard its national interests and economic security.
When asked whether the Kremlin considers Russian energy exports to be a threat, Peskov replied, "We have heard many statements that are actually threats, such as attempts to force countries to cut trade relations with Russia. We do not consider such statements to be legal."
US President Trump previously stated that he had learned of India's plan to refuse to import Russian oil. Meanwhile, the Indian newspaper Mint reported on August 2, citing sources that the Indian National Oil Company will continue to purchase oil from Russia.
India is the third-largest importer of energy in the world, and over 80% of the oil it uses is imported from the international market. The Times of India previously cited data from the Kpler company, a raw materials market analysis firm, reporting that India's oil imports from Russia reached the highest level in 11 months in June, with the volume increasing after tensions escalated between Israel and Iran.
