A federal lawsuit filed on Tuesday alleges that the Trump administration provided confidential immigration information about Iranians seeking asylum in the United States to the Iranian government, potentially violating the confidentiality rights of asylum applicants and endangering their lives and those of their families. The Iranian American Legal Defense Fund stated in its complaint that the U.S. government reached an agreement last year with Iranian officials to regularly share immigration records and information on Iranians detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Since March of last year, U.S. officials are alleged to have delivered relevant documents—such as final removal orders, relief applications, and asylum applications—via mail or in person.
