South Korean media: BYD has taken root in the South Korean market, surpassing Volvo, Audi, and Porsche!

On March 8, the South Korean media "Today's Finance" published an article stating that the Chinese electric vehicle brand BYD is continuously increasing its share in the South Korean import car market.

According to the January import passenger car registration data released by the Korea Automobile Importers Association (KAIDA), BYD ranked in the top five with 1,347 registrations, following BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Tesla, and Lexus.

The total number of new imported passenger cars registered in January was 20,960, a decrease of 26.7% from the previous month, but an increase of 37.6% compared to the same period last year. This is mainly attributed to the growth in electric vehicle sales and the full impact of new brands.

By brand, BMW maintained its leading position with sales of 6,270 units, followed by Mercedes-Benz (5,121 units), Tesla (1,966 units), and Lexus (1,464 units). BYD sold 1,347 units, ranking fifth, surpassing Volvo (1,037 units), Audi (847 units), and Porsche (702 units). For a Chinese brand, achieving such success in the South Korean import car market within such a short time is rare.

From a structural perspective, BYD's rise also aligns with the trend. In January, the number of pure electric vehicles registered in the import car market was 4,430, accounting for 21.1% of the total registrations; hybrid vehicles accounted for 66.6%; gasoline and diesel vehicles were registered at only 2,441 units (11.6%) and 140 units (0.7%), respectively.

By country, Europe still held an absolute advantage with 15,132 units (72.2%), while China ranked third after the United States (2,291 units, 10.9%) and Japan (2,190 units, 10.4%) with 1,347 units (6.4%), showing a significant increase in market share.

The best-selling models were the Mercedes-Benz E200 (1,207 units), BMW 520 (1,162 units), and Tesla Model Y (1,134 units).
