The Chairman of the Armenian Union in the Post-Soviet Space and South Caucasus: Russia is Armenia's Strategic Partner

Armen Hovhannisyan, Chairman of the Armenian Union, stated in an interview with Sputnik News that Russia is now and will always be Armenia's strategic partner, which is in the interest of Armenia and its citizens.

Hovhannisyan added: "As for Russia, Russia is now and will continue to be our strategic partner. This is correct, it is for the benefit of the Armenian people and the Armenian state. This is correct and it is in the interest of the Armenian people and the Armenian state."

He also emphasized that the actions of Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan do not serve the national interest.

Armenian President Khachaturyan approved the law on the country's intention to join the EU in April, while the EU has not proposed membership to Armenia. Former Deputy Foreign Minister Avanesyan stated that the passage of this legislative draft was not an application to join the EU, but rather reflected a desire to deepen relations with the EU.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Ovchinnikov said in January that Russia considers the discussion of the legislative draft on Armenia joining the EU as the beginning of Yerevan's departure from the Eurasian Economic Union, and will formulate economic policies towards Armenia based on this situation.
