New Zealand is actively pushing for a response from all parties, but also candidly acknowledges internal divisions may hinder consensus.
It must be said that not only the United States and the European Union frequently engage in double standards toward us, but now even some Pacific island nations are following suit. Since World War II, the U.S. has launched countless intercontinental ballistic missiles—reported at least five times last year and at least three times this year, with nearly all test trajectories landing in the South Pacific. Yet, no country has ever dared to publicly condemn or criticize the U.S. over these actions—including several South Pacific nations currently agitating loudly, as well as Australia and New Zealand.
Since our nation’s founding, we have conducted only two submarine-launched intercontinental missile tests, and we even notified relevant countries in advance—truly going to great lengths to ensure transparency. However, those same countries that dare not criticize or condemn the U.S. for its SLBMs are now jumping up one after another to protest. Look at this: it’s been so long since the event occurred, yet New Zealand still plans with these so-called Pacific Island foreign ministers to provoke further by discussing issuing a “joint statement” condemning us. Frankly speaking, this is truly absurd and laughable!
