US Media: Ford Once Discussed Bringing Geely's Technology to the US!
Will Ford Motor Company, a leading American automaker, team up with China's Geely Automobile? Recently, The Wall Street Journal reported that Ford Motor Company has been discussing the application of Geely's technology to its vehicle models sold in the U.S. market.
Geely Automobile is China's second-largest automaker, behind BYD. The Geely Group owns multiple brands, including Sweden's Volvo, electric vehicle brand Polestar, and Britain's Lotus.
The report states that Ford has been in discussions with Geely for over a year regarding potential collaboration, including technology licensing. According to sources, during these talks, Ford also proposed the possibility of applying Geely’s manufacturing platforms to future vehicle models. However, negotiations, which had continued into early this year, have stalled. Currently, both companies are focusing on reaching an agreement to share technologies and production capabilities in Europe rather than in the United States.
The Wall Street Journal explained that although Chinese electric vehicles possess outstanding technology and competitiveness, introducing them into the U.S. market remains a sensitive issue.
