Half of the new energy vehicles imported by Israel come from China

The Israeli Association of Car Importers said that despite the tense bilateral relations, Chinese car brands are rapidly taking a foothold in Israel's new energy vehicle market.

In the first eight months of this year, about half of the newly registered new energy vehicles (including hybrid vehicles) were Chinese brands, with Chery and BYD ranking third and fourth, respectively, behind Toyota and Hyundai.

In terms of pure electric vehicles, nine out of the top ten best-selling brands are made in China, with Tesla ranking fifth. The overall market share of Chinese cars in Israel increased from 1% in 2021 to 29% in 2025, second only to European cars at 31%, surpassing South Korean cars at 19.5% and Japanese cars at 15.9%.

According to a report by Caixin citing the commercial attaché of the Israeli Consulate General in Shanghai, Hainben Ji, "Israel is one of the main destinations for China's electric vehicle exports, second only to Mexico and Russia." He also pointed out that the economies of China and Israel are highly complementary, and there is still great potential for growth in their trade in the future.

China is Israel's second-largest trading partner, after the United States. In 2024, China's exports to Israel reached $19 billion, an increase of 18% year-on-year, accounting for about one-fifth of Israel's total imports.
