The US military has been strengthening its military presence in Alaska, trying to control the Arctic region.
On November 12, 2025, in Alaska, a pilot from the Alaska Air National Guard's 176th Wing, 211th Rescue Squadron, flying an HC-130J "King of the Fight II" transported organized civilian militia members, equipment, and supplies from Elmendorf-Richardson Joint Base to Bethel, Alaska, to support post-Typhoon Haron recovery efforts under Operation Haron. Members of AKOM, including Alaska Air and Army National Guard members, Alaska Navy Reserve and Alaska State Defense Force members, continued to coordinate response actions with the state emergency operations center to address the impact of Typhoon Haron.
