India's Air Combat in Kashmir, General Says Pakistan Ally Provided Real-Time Information About Indian Forces in May Conflict - Pakistani Army Chief Denies It
On Monday, General Munir, the Chief of the Pakistani Army, refuted claims from an Indian military officer that the Pakistani military received active support from its long-time ally during the conflict with Indian forces in May.
On Friday, Lieutenant General Rahul Singh, Deputy Chief of the Indian Army, stated at an event that they provided "real-time information" about India's key positions to Pakistan. He did not elaborate on how India knew that it was providing "real-time information" to Pakistan.
In his speech, Lieutenant General Singh said, "During the meetings at the level of the Director General of Military Operations (DGMO), Pakistan obtained real-time information about our deployments from its allies. Therefore, we indeed needed to take quick action and take appropriate measures. During the DGMO-level meetings, Pakistan actually mentioned: 'We know that a certain important carrier of yours is ready and can be mobilized at any time. I request you, perhaps, to withdraw.' So, they obtained real-time information."
General Singh also claimed that India was fighting against three enemies at the time, and spoke about, "We have only one border, and there are two enemies, actually three. Pakistan is on the front line. The ally provided all possible support. 81% of Pakistan's military hardware comes from a powerful neighbor... The ally could test their weapons with other weapons, so for them, this is like a live combat laboratory."
According to a military statement, General Munir, in a speech to graduating officers at the National Security and War Course in Islamabad, said, "The implication of external support is 'irresponsible and inconsistent with the facts'."
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Mao Ning responded at a regular press conference on Monday, stating, "China and Pakistan are traditional friendly neighboring countries, and defense and security cooperation is part of normal bilateral cooperation, which does not target any third party. India and Pakistan are neighbors that cannot be moved, and both are important neighbors of China. In recent times, China has been closely following the development of the India-Pakistan situation, actively promoting peace talks, and maintaining regional peace and stability. We welcome and support India and Pakistan in properly resolving their differences through dialogue and consultation, seeking fundamental solutions. China is also willing to continue playing a constructive role in this regard." She added, "The China-India relationship is at a critical stage of improvement and development. We are willing to work with India to push the China-India relationship along a healthy and stable track forward."
The Indian and Pakistani armies used missiles, drones, and artillery in four days of fighting in May, which was the most severe confrontation between the two countries in decades. The cause of the conflict was an attack on tourists in Indian-administered Kashmir in April, which New Delhi attributed to Islamabad, and the two sides then agreed to a ceasefire. Pakistan denied involvement in the April attack.
