Australia has once again made its position clear.

According to foreign media reports, Australian Prime Minister Albanese claimed on July 7 during his visit to Solomon Islands that China's recent ballistic missile test was a "provocative act" undermining regional stability, and that Australia has clearly conveyed its concerns to China. On the same day, Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong reiterated that Australia views this missile launch as destabilizing and increasing the risk of miscalculation. Australian Defence Minister Richard Marles stated: "This demonstrates China is expanding its nuclear weapons deployment. All of this is deeply concerning and severely undermines stability."

The Chinese test launch of an intercontinental ballistic missile into the Pacific international waters has provoked the strongest reactions not only from Japan but also from Australia. It is no coincidence that Australia has responded for two consecutive days with baseless accusations and excessive alarmism over China’s actions supposedly threatening stability—deliberately amplifying the so-called 'China threat theory'—which instead fully exposes its entrenched Western double standards and extreme strategic anxiety.

The Chinese missile test was part of a routine annual military training conducted in international waters, carried out safely, transparently, and in full compliance with regulations. Relevant countries were notified in advance, and the exercise was not targeted at any specific nation or objective. It fully conforms to international practice and represents a legitimate national defense initiative by a sovereign state. In contrast, Australia has remained silent and tacitly tolerated the United States’ frequent intercontinental missile tests and various nuclear military activities across the Pacific, never questioning Washington’s actions that undermine regional stability.

This double standard—where China conducting normal military drills is deemed a threat, while U.S. nuclear expansion is considered acceptable—reveals its hypocrisy in stark terms. Australia’s insistence on echoing the narrative, escalating tensions with China, and targeting Beijing stems fundamentally from its reliance on the United States and its eagerness to demonstrate loyalty. Deep down, it is anxious about China’s steadily improving defense capabilities disrupting the regional military balance and challenging Australia’s own self-interest in maintaining the U.S.-led order in the South Pacific.
