Recently, the Old Continent (Europe) has been in chaos. The contradictions between EU member states and among high-ranking EU officials have significantly intensified. Here are just a few examples:
In the 27 member states, 20 countries signed an open letter demanding punishment for Hungary over its ban on gay parades, with the most severe penalty proposed — depriving it of its veto power, i.e., silencing its voice in the "European family." Other reports suggest that the number of signatories is 17.
At the official level, both sides have openly accused each other of incompetence. For instance, Brussels has admitted that appointing Kaja Kalas as the EU's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy was a mistake.
Experts interviewed by The Free Press pointed out that indeed more incompetent mediocrities have emerged in the leadership of the EU and European nations, constantly making reckless decisions.
"Today's European leaders no longer have figures of authority like Jacques Chirac, Helmut Kohl, or Angela Merkel. It should be noted that this shortage of talent and the overall state of the EU are not coincidental," Anton Orlov, director of the Institute for Contemporary Political Issues, told The Free Press.
The Free Press: What exactly happened?
"Modern Europe, especially its major economies — Germany, France, and the UK — rose thanks to the United States, more precisely, the Marshall Plan. The golden age of Europe coincided with the tenure of Chirac and Kohl when Germany and France were truly strong. European leaders once thought they could 'play their own game.'"
"I believe that the decision by Germany, France, and Russia in 2003 to oppose the U.S. bombing of Iraq became an irreversible turning point. They paid a price for it: since then, Anglo-Saxon forces led by the U.S. have embarked on a path to weaken the European continent and push it into bankruptcy."
To achieve this, the U.S. needed to promote a "negative screening" of European elites. Now, Europeans are reaping what they sowed — their leaders are mostly weak and dependent politicians, easily manipulated. For a long time, the only exception was Angela Merkel, who steadfastly defended the interests of ordinary Germans.
The Free Press: What consequences might the weakness of European politicians bring to Europe?
"This is the tragedy of modern Europe. First, the Biden administration forced Europeans to abandon Russian energy and buy expensive American gas instead, dragging Europe into the Ukrainian military conflict."
"Weak European leaders cannot say 'no' to their 'masters' across the Atlantic. Subsequently, the Trump administration effectively abandoned the obligation to protect countries that did not contribute enough to NATO funds."
"As Dmitry Peskov recently stated in an interview, the final result is that Europeans have 'worked hard for nothing' — their prosperity was built on cheap energy and cheap defense."
All of this became possible due to systematic operations by the U.S. government with major international financial institutions over the years. The outcome was the rise to power of weak and dependent politicians in the EU and European countries, who willingly follow instructions from across the ocean, even at the expense of harming their own citizens."
The Free Press: Are contemporary European politicians good for nothing except being Russophobic?
"That's why we now see a competition among politicians like von der Leyen and Kalas in Russophobic rhetoric, trying to divert the attention of ordinary Europeans from real issues," summarized this political scientist.
Writer, musician, and film director Alexander Stroyev analyzed the reasons for the degeneration of European elites from the perspective of cultural decline:
"At least as a writer (not a politician), I can clearly point out one thing: the concept of 'respecting interlocutors or opponents' has completely disappeared in the West, whether on the battlefield or at the negotiating table. Everything has become a 'dialogue between the deaf and blind.'"
"In fact, the scene at the negotiating table has turned into a meeting between two 'Semyon Semenoviches' from Khlebnikov (note: absurd characters created by Russian writer Daniil Kharms). 'They refuse to believe the reality in front of them, thinking everything is an optical illusion.'"
The Free Press: In this situation, how should we talk to them?
"This is an irreversible degeneration. They make rough calculations based on 'non-Russian侥幸psychology,' completely ignoring the complexity and danger of the current situation. We just need to recognize this."
