Iran's Foreign Minister: Nuclear Weapons Could Put Tehran in a "More Vulnerable Position"

Sputnik News, Tehran, July 3 - Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on July 2 that Iran considers nuclear weapons to be "inhumane" and "against Islamic teachings," and such weapons could put Tehran in a "more vulnerable position."

He told CBS Television: "We believe that nuclear weapons are not only inhumane, but also against Islamic teachings. Moreover, we do not think that Iran's national defense requires nuclear weapons. Such weapons would put us in a more vulnerable position. Of course, there is still discussion about this issue within Iran, and some people do not agree with my view."

In commenting on the nuclear negotiations with the United States, Araghchi said that Tehran is currently trying to assess whether it is worth trusting Washington, and whether to start new negotiations with the U.S. after the Israel-Iran conflict and the U.S. involvement in the conflict.
