Media: Ford Discusses Producing Chinese Cars in the U.S. with the Trump Administration
Sputnik News, Washington, February 14 - According to a report by Bloomberg citing informed sources, Ford Motor Company's CEO Jim Farley has discussed with the U.S. government the possibility of producing Chinese cars in the United States through cooperation with U.S. companies.
The report states: "Ford's executives have discussed a potential strategy with senior officials from the Trump administration that would allow Chinese car manufacturers to produce vehicles in the United States by partnering with U.S. automotive companies."
According to sources, during a meeting in January, Farley discussed a model with members of the Trump administration that would allow Chinese car manufacturers to produce cars in the United States by establishing joint ventures with U.S. partners, with the U.S. holding controlling interest in the joint venture and sharing profits and technology with the other party.
General Motors told the Trump administration that it did not agree to Chinese car manufacturers entering the U.S. market because it would pose a risk of losing market share and importing Chinese components would negatively affect North American suppliers.
Bloomberg noted that the negotiations between Farley and Trump administration officials are informal and preliminary, and no decision has been made on the joint venture.
