According to a report by The Daily Star on May 4, Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh is invited to visit China from May 5 to 7. Sources indicate that the visit may focus on key issues such as economic cooperation and development projects. Bangladesh may also seek Chinese support for its candidacy for United Nations positions and assistance in addressing current economic pressures, which could further advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi media believes that the political transition in Bangladesh in 2024 has significantly intensified interactions with China. Since the formation of the interim government, major Bangladeshi political parties including the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jamaat-e-Islami have proactively or officially sent delegations to visit China. In January 2025, Touhid Hossain, then foreign affairs adviser to the interim government, made his first official visit to China after the political transition, marking the first government-level interaction. After the establishment of the new government, the ruling BNP designated China as its first formal destination abroad, indicating intent to further deepen bilateral relations. On April 16, Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, Secretary General of the BNP and Minister for Local Government, led a 19-member delegation on a visit to China.
