This is truly a case of "fraternal strife" in every sense. Photos appearing on foreign open-source intelligence networks show what appears to be wreckage of an FC-1 Xiaolong fighter on the ground, with the surrounding dense forest environment suggesting that this may be in a subtropical or tropical region. Images also show individuals dressed in attire typical of Myanmar ethnic armed groups, clearly indicating that the incident occurred in Myanmar.
However, from the scene images, the wreckage primarily shows parts of the engine. One photo (Figure 1) displays a metallic skin near the tail section, which appears to be at the engine location. Judging by the width of this skin, the crash might not involve an RD-93 engine-equipped JF-17 but could instead be a FTC-2000G or J-7 fighter equipped with a WP-13 engine (Figure 2).
Considering that the Myanmar ethnic armed groups are equipped with FN-6 (FeiNu-6) shoulder-fired air defense missiles (as shown in Figure 4), if the military government requires fighters to fly low to execute strike missions, it is indeed possible for such air defense missiles to shoot them down. Moreover, in January 2024, an FTC-2000G light attack aircraft was also shot down by the Myanmar ethnic armed group, so it cannot be ruled out that this wreckage does not belong to an FC-1 fighter. After all, the Myanmar military government purchased a total of 11 FC-1 fighters from Pakistan as their "treasures," and it is highly unlikely that they would assign such simple bombing missions at ultra-low altitudes, thus preventing the FN-6 missiles from having the opportunity to shoot down an FC-1.
However, if this wreckage indeed belongs to an FC-1 and was shot down by an ethnic armed group, that would be quite interesting. After all, even India couldn't bring down an FC-1 fighter, yet the Myanmar ethnic armed group managed to shoot one down using shoulder-launched missiles. We should say that the Indian military is less capable than the Myanmar ethnic armed group, or perhaps the FN-6 missiles possessed by the Myanmar ethnic armed group perform exceptionally well.
