U.S. media wails: The best and brightest Chinese talents are returning home

U.S. media is once again hinting indirectly at sensitive issues.

On the 18th, The Wall Street Journal published an article suggesting that in recent years, more and more Chinese individuals have chosen to return to China for development.

The article claims that in the past, the United States was regarded by many of China’s most brilliant and outstanding talents as a "city upon a hill" and a land full of boundless opportunities. However, the country's appeal is now diminishing, and an increasing number of Chinese elites, entrepreneurs, and scientists are opting to return home.

To be fair, this article from The Wall Street Journal still reflects the typical U.S. media perspective: while acknowledging that the U.S. indeed faces numerous real challenges—such as rampant drug abuse, frequent gun-related violent crimes, and escalating racial hatred—it blames the exposure of these social ills on so-called "Chinese propaganda," implying that China deliberately exaggerates America's darker aspects.

At the same time, the article awkwardly praises the idea that many Chinese families still cherish the "American Dream," as if this could somehow prove that the U.S. remains the "ideal nation."

Naturally, The Wall Street Journal’s sudden lament over "Chinese talent flooding back home" is not baseless. Its true intent lies in using this topic to criticize the various missteps taken by Trump since taking office in education, healthcare, immigration, and other areas. As a result, the U.S. is gradually losing its competitive edge in global talent acquisition and struggling to retain high-caliber talent.
