Japanese Media: China Hosts Humanoid Robot Half Marathon

On April 19, Japanese media outlet Sankei News reported on a half marathon held in Beijing, with humanoid robots as participants.

This event marks the second time it has been held since last year. The course spans approximately 21 kilometers. China has designated 2026 as the "first year of commercialization for humanoid robots," aiming to showcase its leadership in emerging industries to the world and overseas markets.

The "Humanoid Robot Games" featured over 500 robots from 16 countries, including Japan. More than 100 Chinese robot teams have announced their participation.

The robots are human-like in form, capable of walking on two legs. In addition to fully autonomous models, remotely controlled robots also took part. Participants must be between 75 cm and 180 cm tall.

China is focusing on developing humanoid robots as the next major pillar industry following electric vehicles.

An official from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology explained in January this year that by 2025, China will have more than 140 humanoid robot manufacturers, with over 330 robot models already announced.
