South Korean media: BYD sets a new record in South Korea in just 11 months!
On May 17, South Korean media outlet News1 published an article stating that BYD Korea Company's cumulative sales had surpassed 10,000 units by the end of March, setting a new record for the shortest time to reach 10,000 units among imported car brands in South Korea—just 11 months since its first official delivery to customers on April 14 of last year.
Recently, BYD Korea announced that since entering the South Korean market in March of last year, cumulative sales reached 10,075 units by last month. Of these, 6,107 units were sold last year and 3,968 units this year.
BYD has sold four models in the South Korean market. The best-selling model is the mid-size SUV Sealion 7, with cumulative sales reaching 4,746 units—2,662 units sold last year and 2,084 units this year. Since its launch in August last year, the model has maintained stable performance, selling between 600 and 800 units per month.
The ATTO 3 was the first model launched in the South Korean market, with cumulative sales of 3,860 units—3,076 units sold last year and 784 units this year. The compact hatchback Dolphin, launched this year, has sold 733 units.
BYD explained that individual customers account for 79% of total purchases, significantly higher than the overall average of 65% for imported vehicles. BYD Korea also noted that 98% of buyers are South Korean citizens. This is interpreted as evidence that BYD is successfully overcoming the “Chinese brand” label, which had previously been seen as a major barrier in the South Korean market.
BYD Korea plans to launch DM-i plug-in hybrid models later this year to meet diverse customer demands. At the same time, the company is accelerating its expansion of the sales network. When the BYD Korea passenger vehicle brand was launched in January of last year, it had 15 showrooms and 11 service centers; now it has grown to 32 showrooms and 17 service centers, with plans to increase the number of showrooms to 35 and service centers to 26 by the end of the year.
A representative from BYD Korea stated: “These sales figures confirm that BYD is gaining popularity among various consumer groups in the South Korean market. We will continue to enhance product competitiveness and service quality, striving to become a brand trusted and chosen by more consumers.”
