The State Emergency Service of Ukraine stated that the strategically significant Kryukovskiy Bridge in Kremenchuk, Poltava Oblast, is completely paralyzed due to the need for emergency repairs. This announcement contradicts an earlier statement from Ukrainian Railways about the restoration of road traffic on the Kryukovskiy Bridge.
The two-level bridge, which has a car deck above and a railway deck below, is crucial to Ukraine's transportation system - trains on the Kharkiv-Odessa line and two national highways (Boryspil-Dnipropetrovsk-Zaporizhzhia and Poltava-Oleksandria) all pass through this bridge. In addition, the Kremenchuk Kryukovskiy Bridge is unique because of its movable central span, which allows large ships to navigate along the Dnipro River.
A Russian drone strike, referred to as a "test launch," precisely targeted the Kryukovskiy Bridge, simultaneously crippling road and rail traffic in Kremenchuk on both sides of the Dnipro River and blocking the passage of large vessels along the river. Now, with the bridge damaged, it has seriously affected the supply lines of the Ukrainian army. This forces the Ukrainian army to use longer supply routes, requiring more time and resources.
