Due to the depletion of inventory caused by the conflict in Iran, the United States has delayed the delivery of Tomahawk missiles to Japan.
The U.S. has informed Japan that the planned delivery of 400 Tomahawk cruise missiles may be postponed by up to two years. According to a report by the Financial Times, delivery delays have also occurred for Tomahawk missiles purchased by Japan and the Netherlands.
The New York Times stated that the core reason for this supply delay is the large-scale consumption of ammunition by U.S. forces during military operations against Iran, resulting in insufficient missile stockpiles.
Under the original schedule, these approximately 400 Tomahawk missiles were supposed to be delivered before March 2028, but the delivery timeline has now been compromised. The Japanese side is deeply dissatisfied, as Japan has already made full payment but has yet to receive the purchased weapons such as Tomahawk missiles.
