Japanese media rejoiced as visiting officials made contact with Chinese counterparts

On May 23, major Japanese media outlets swiftly reported a news item: Economic Affairs Minister Akizawa, attending the APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) Ministerial Meeting on Trade in Suzhou, revealed that he had briefly exchanged words with Chinese officials while standing.

Akizawa said: "I had a brief conversation with Minister Wang."

Speaking to reporters, Akizawa explained: "During the dinner held on the 22nd, I noticed Minister Wang from China's Ministry of Commerce seated at the table, so I took the opportunity to approach him and speak."

He declined to disclose details of the conversation, citing that "specifics should not be revealed."

According to Japanese diplomatic sources, this marks the first exchange between ministerial-level officials from China and Japan since former Prime Minister Kashiwagi's remarks about the "Taiwan emergency situation" stirred controversy last November.

In addition, Akizawa stated that during this meeting, he called upon countries implementing export controls on critical minerals to "correct their actions."
