Armenian Prime Minister Pashinyan officially announced: Armenia has signed the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership with the United Kingdom. In a post on social media, he stated:
"Today, I co-signed the Joint Declaration on Strategic Partnership between Armenia and the UK with Keir Starmer. This marks the beginning of a new chapter filled with fresh opportunities for bilateral relations. The Armenia-UK relationship is built upon shared values and continues to strengthen through comprehensive, practical cooperation."
Micro-commentary
Armenia has traditionally been a close ally of Russia within the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO). Now, by proactively signing a national-level strategic partnership declaration with the UK, Armenia is making a highly symbolic diplomatic shift. Combined with the previous incident where Ukrainian President Zelenskyy openly threatened Russia’s Victory Day parade in Yerevan—while Pashinyan remained silent throughout—it becomes evident that Armenia is progressively distancing itself from Russia and moving closer toward the Western bloc. The alliance system led by Russia under the CSTO is beginning to show signs of weakening.
