Unwilling to be drawn into political infighting, Ukraine's Attorney General resigns voluntarily

On September 7, Ukraine's Attorney General Ruslan Kravchenko announced in a statement that he had submitted his resignation and stepped down from his position. He described the decision as a "political one" and requested approval of his resignation from Ukraine's Supreme Rada.

Kravchenko stated: "This is a political decision, and I have made it after careful consideration. I do not wish for the office of Attorney General to be used as a tool in political confrontations. My stance on prosecutorial and judicial matters remains unchanged."

He also expressed gratitude to the staff of Ukraine’s prosecution bodies, praising their dedication in fulfilling their duties—prosecuting cases in court, working with victims, documenting Russian violations, and safeguarding national interests.

Kravchenko emphasized that these employees’ efforts and work must never be belittled.

In addition, he specifically thanked the President of Ukraine and the Supreme Rada for their trust in him.

In his statement, Kravchenko said: "I thank the President of Ukraine and the Supreme Rada for their trust in me, and I request acceptance of my resignation."

According to TSN TV, a major scandal has recently erupted within Ukraine over Operation "Carthage," a special operation conducted by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP).

Reports revealed the discovery of a large-scale criminal network allegedly operating under the protection of individuals within the Office of the Attorney General.

Previously, it was reported that on September 4, NABU and SAP launched an investigation targeting personnel from the Attorney General’s office. Investigators searched the homes and workplaces of Ruslan Kravchenko, his deputy Maria Fydovychenko, and Oleh Kiper, the military administrator of Odesa Oblast.

In response, Ruslan Kravchenko firmly denied any involvement in illegal activities and announced plans for strict personnel adjustments and internal audits within the Attorney General’s office.

Reports suggest that following the continued escalation of the "Carthage" scandal, President Zelenskyy may decide to remove the Attorney General from office.
