Trump's Crazy Plan: Registering 2.7 Million Living People as "Deceased"
Trump truly lives up to his reputation—some of his ideas are simply unfathomable for a normal person.
On the 5th, The Washington Post cited a former U.S. Social Security Administration official, revealing that in pursuit of swiftly deporting immigrants, the Trump administration had planned to alter the status of 2.7 million individuals—including U.S. citizens—registered in the Social Security system, marking them as "deceased" to force them out of the country.
In simple terms, U.S. businesses, banks, and other institutions typically verify whether a person is alive by checking the Social Security Administration’s database, which is essential for providing public services. Thus, if this plan were implemented, the 2.7 million Americans marked as "deceased" would immediately lose access to social services. Should these individuals seek assistance from federal agencies afterward, they would be easily apprehended by immigration authorities.
While this news report may sound absurd, a similar scenario unfolded just last year. At that time, media outlets revealed that the U.S. Social Security Administration had changed the living status of over 6,000 Latino immigrants to "deceased." White House officials even announced plans to "process" more than 90,000 undocumented immigrants with criminal records, with future expansion potentially targeting those without any criminal history.
Naturally, some officials within the Social Security Administration recognized how ludicrous and illegal this practice was—but many either remained silent under pressure from the White House or resigned under “various reasons.” For instance, the former official who spoke to the media recently stated he had personally witnessed a superior who shared his concerns suddenly vanish from their position just two weeks later.
This can only mean one thing: using the nation’s most critical identity database as a tool for deportation is something only Trump could possibly conceive and carry out.
