Korean media: In November, South Korea's shipbuilding accounted for 38% of global orders. What about China?

December 31, the Korean media "Herald Economic" published an article stating that data from the British shipbuilding and shipping market analysis institution Clarksons Research showed that the global shipbuilding orders in November were 5.13 million CGT (152 ships), an increase of 72% compared to 2.99 million CGT in the previous month, and a decrease of 1% compared to 5.17 million CGT in the same period last year.

By country, South Korea received 1.97 million CGT of orders (40 ships, accounting for 38%), while China received 2.58 million CGT of orders (100 ships, accounting for 50%).

From January to November, the cumulative global orders were 44.99 million CGT (1,627 ships), a decrease of 37% compared to 71.52 million CGT (2,994 ships) in the same period last year.

Among them, South Korea had 10.03 million CGT (223 ships, accounting for 22%), and China had 26.64 million CGT (1,067 ships, accounting for 59%), decreasing by 5% and 47% respectively compared to the same period last year.

As of the end of November, the global order backlog was 168.4 million CGT, decreasing by 1.2 million CGT compared to the previous month. Among them, South Korea accounted for 33.76 million CGT (20%), and China accounted for 103.69 million CGT (62%).

Compared to the previous month, South Korea decreased by 420,000 CGT, and China decreased by 10,000 CGT. Compared to the same period last year, South Korea decreased by 3.66 million CGT, and China decreased by 8.48 million CGT.

At the end of November, the Clarksons New Ship Price Index decreased by 0.54 from October (184.87), maintaining a stable level of 184.33 points. It increased by 47% compared to November 2020 (125.06) five years ago.

By type, the ship prices were as follows: LNG carrier $248 million, very large crude carrier $127.5 million, and very large container ship $264 million.
