Huawei invested about $24 billion in R&D last year and obtained 37,000 new patents. The number of patents that Huawei currently holds has exceeded 150,000.
Fan Zhiyong, Huawei's intellectual property representative, said: "As of last year, more than 2.7 billion 5G devices have obtained our patent licenses in the cellular standard field; over 1.2 billion consumer electronic devices have obtained our patent licenses in the Wi-Fi field; and over 3.2 billion multimedia devices have obtained our video codec patent licenses in the multimedia field."
He also added: "Open source, open hardware, and public cloud services allow millions of developers, partners, and customers around the world to use Huawei's technology to create their own software and hardware products."
Huawei's R&D investment last year reached 17 billion yuan, which accounted for approximately 21% of its total revenue, making it one of the top six companies in the world in terms of R&D investment.
The company has more than 50,000 valid patents in China, making it the largest patent holder. It has more than 29,000 registered patents in the United States and more than 19,000 registered patents in Europe. Over the past three years, Huawei has signed or renewed cross-licensing agreements with global major companies such as Nokia, Ericsson, Amazon, Samsung, and Sharp.
