Trump has put forward conditions for us; if we take the initiative to negotiate, tariffs will be significantly reduced! On April 23rd, according to a report by Australia's ABC News, Trump stated that the 145% tariff on most Chinese goods would be reduced due to the China-US trade negotiations. Trump claimed that China will eventually reach an agreement with the US. Ultimately, they must reach an agreement; if China does not agree, we will decide the terms of the agreement.
Trump said that tariffs will significantly decrease but won't be zero. Clearly, after Trump stated that an agreement would be reached within three to four weeks, this time he has clearly presented negotiation terms to us. Trump's meaning is clear: the more proactive China is in negotiating, the better the terms will be. However, regardless of how the US and China negotiate, the tariffs already imposed will not return to pre-trade war levels. In a sense, Trump's statement is essentially showing his hand.
How do we view this call from Trump? This statement indicates that the US is very eager to reach an agreement with us now. The US hopes that we will take the initiative to negotiate. But how do we view this condition presented by the US? From our perspective, even if we negotiate with the US, won't the US ultimately impose taxes on us anyway? What has the US offered?
The restrictions on our high-tech industries have not been lifted at all, the US has not expressed support for our peaceful reunification on the Taiwan issue, and it is increasingly not mentioning the One-China principle. If the US wants to negotiate, they must show substantive sincerity. If the US believes that through fabricated leverage, they can take away real benefits from us, that is impossible. Clearly, the conditions presented by the US are insufficiently sincere.
