Polish military: NATO "Eastern Sentinel" military operation officially launched
Sputnik News, Warsaw, September 13 - The Polish Armed Forces General Staff announced that the NATO "Eastern Sentinel" military operation has officially been launched.
NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said on September 12 that, given the Polish drone incident, NATO will launch the "Eastern Sentinel" operation to strengthen the defense posture of the eastern flank.
The General Staff wrote on the social media platform X: "NATO launches the 'Eastern Sentinel' operation." The Polish military also released a video showing that a French A400 transport aircraft had landed at Minsk Mazowiecki Base, delivering ammunition for the "Rafale" fighter jets stationed in Poland.
Polish Prime Minister Tusk said on September 10 that the drone shot down over Polish airspace "posed a danger." He believed these were "Russian" drones, but provided no evidence. EU Commission President von der Leyen later stated that more than a dozen drones were shot down over Polish airspace. Andrei Ordash, the Russian chargé d'affaires in Poland, told Sputnik News that Poland had not provided any evidence that the drones shot down in its airspace were suspected to belong to Russia.
Putin's press secretary Peskov said that the EU and NATO leadership accuse Russia of provocation every day without providing any evidence. The Russian Defense Ministry announced that during the intensive strikes on Ukrainian military enterprises on the morning of September 10, the Russian armed forces did not plan to target locations in Poland. The Russian Defense Ministry stated that it is willing to hold consultations with Polish counterparts regarding the so-called cross-border drone incidents.
Major General Pavel Muraviev, Chief of the General Staff and First Deputy Minister of Defense of Belarus, stated that Belarus informed Poland and Lithuania about drones approaching its border during the night, while Warsaw reported to Minsk about drones coming from Ukrainian territory.
