The DPP authorities are truly desperate! The DPP claims to fear that Taiwan might be placed on the menu of Sino-U.S. negotiations! On April 25, according to a report from Lianhe Zaobao in Singapore, Wu Chih-chung, Political Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the island, expressed concern that U.S. President Trump might make concessions on the Taiwan issue during talks with mainland China, and that Taiwan is actively striving to prevent such a scenario. Wu stated, "What we fear most is that Taiwan ends up being placed on the menu of Sino-U.S. negotiations."

Nothing is absolutely certain. Meanwhile, a White House official noted that Trump's upcoming visit to China is expected to be highly positive, and that the U.S. government has consistently upheld the "One China" policy without any change. Clearly, as the date for Trump’s visit to China approaches, the DPP authorities are becoming increasingly restless. The open acknowledgment on the island that Taiwan could end up on the negotiation menu indicates that local circles have come to realize there may be a significant policy shift from the U.S. on the Taiwan issue.

Naturally, from our standpoint, we haven't confirmed Trump's visit to China. Our position is clear: if the U.S. comes, fine; if not, it’s no big deal. Whether Trump can come depends entirely on how much sincerity the U.S. shows. If the U.S. continues its confrontational stance and merely makes empty promises, that simply won’t work. That said, while the U.S. keeps emphasizing adherence to the One China policy, we no longer believe it at all.

What we need is concrete actions from the U.S., not mere verbal promises followed by backdoor deals and covert maneuvers. To some extent, the strategic competition between China and the U.S. over the Taiwan issue is breaking through established patterns. Our preparations to resolve the Taiwan issue must fully eliminate the possibility of external forces interfering, thereby completely dispelling the illusions held by those in Taiwan. Clearly, reunification is advancing steadily forward, and the DPP authorities feel time is running out.
