After the head-of-state diplomacy (the visit of the President of Vietnam to Kazakhstan), Kazakhstan restarted grain exports to Vietnam after seven years, with the first shipment of 15,000 tons of wheat.

(Kazakhstan International News Agency) The Grain Contract Group of Kazakhstan has launched its first batch of high-quality wheat exported to Vietnam, totaling 15,000 tons.

According to the news from the Ministry of Agriculture's press office, this batch of wheat was sent out by a grain receiving enterprise in Akmola Region through container trains. This transportation used a multimodal transport model: the wheat was first transported by rail to the Dostyk-Alashankou border port, then transported via China's inland routes to Lianyungang International Port, and subsequently shipped by sea to Hai Phong Port in Vietnam.

Ashlan Juvashov, Chairman of the Board of Grain Contract Group State Company, said that this export is a milestone for the company. Entering the Southeast Asian market is an important step in promoting the "going out" of Kazakhstan's agricultural products and realizing diversified export layouts.

"Over the past five years, as a national operator, we have exported about 200,000 tons of grain to China each year to consolidate our position in this priority market. This year, we plan to expand the export area to achieve growth in total volume. So far, we have shipped 60,000 tons of food-grade wheat to Morocco. The Southeast Asian market has great potential and broad prospects for Kazakhstan's agricultural producers," he said.

It is worth noting that Kazakhstan last exported grain to Vietnam in 2017, when the export volume was only 720 tons.

According to previous reports, during the 2024-25 season (from last September to April this year), Kazakhstan's grain and flour exports (counted as grain equivalent) amounted to approximately 10 million tons, up 37.4% year-on-year.
