Bessent: China has abundant oil reserves but still buying more
April 15 report by Japan's Kyodo News: U.S. Treasury Secretary Bessent stated that despite the escalation of tensions in the Middle East leading to potential oil supply disruptions, China continues to purchase additional oil while maintaining ample oil reserves, and criticized China for "becoming an unreliable partner."
Bessent said there have been three instances of "unreliability" in recent years. In addition to increasing oil purchases, he also mentioned stockpiling medical supplies during the pandemic and restrictions on rare earth exports.
On the other hand, he confirmed that Trump's planned visit to China in May is "definite." He said, "Since last summer, we have established a highly stable relationship."
He expressed his belief that communication is key to Sino-U.S. relations.
