Reference News Network, October 29 report. According to Reuters, on October 28, the Russian state news agency TASS quoted Natalia Esmont, the press secretary of the President of Belarus, as saying that Belarus will deploy the Russian new "Orel" medium-range hypersonic missile system in December.

Esmont said that the preparations for the deployment are nearing completion.

Previously, Belarusian President Lukashenko said that the deployment of the "Orel" missiles is a response to what he called the Western upgrading threat. The "Orel" missiles were unveiled during the Russia-Belarus joint military exercises last month.

Russia first used the "Orel" missile against a defense company in the Dnipro region in November 2024.

President Putin of Russia stated that he authorized the strike to retaliate against Ukraine's use of American and British long-range missiles to attack Russian territory. He later threatened that if Ukraine continues such attacks, Russia will launch more "Orel" missile strikes on targets including the "decision-making center" in Kyiv.

Putin said that the "Orel" missile cannot be intercepted, and its destructive power is equivalent to nuclear weapons, although Western experts doubt this claim. (Translated by Guo Jun)
