Japanese nationals in Indonesia involved in local child prostitution spark public outrage
According to a report by Japanese media outlet TBS News on May 14: Child prostitution cases involving Japanese nationals in Southeast Asia are occurring frequently, and many Japanese individuals are actively posting and boasting about their experiences of purchasing sex with children on social media. As a result, Indonesian authorities have launched investigations into the matter. The incident has triggered strong public anger in Indonesia, prompting the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia to issue a warning.
According to Indonesian media reports, local police announced on May 11 that they are investigating Japanese nationals suspected of engaging in child prostitution in Jakarta and other regions. It is said that a group of Japanese men have repeatedly posted extremely offensive content related to child prostitution in Indonesia on social media platforms and continuously spread such material.
In response to these reports, the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia issued a warning on May 13, stating that child prostitution is not only severely punished locally but is also considered a criminal offense under Japanese law.
In several Southeast Asian countries, foreign nationals including Japanese people engaging in child prostitution locally has become a serious social issue.
Last year, the Japanese Embassy in Laos also issued a similar warning.
